Milk: The Ajji -approved Energy Drink!

Updated: May 26, 2023

We all remember that feeling. That feeling of coming back from school, and before we could even reach for the remote, Ajji asked you to change and wash your face. And before you could even protest, BAM, she's conjured up a glass of Milk in your face!

Now, why was ajji always chasing you around with a glass of Milk?

Was it love? Of course. (Ajjis are the best, aren't they?) But it is also because she's wise. She knows that when it comes to all-around nutrition for children, and frankly, adults too, nothing beats Milk.

Unlike Red bull and Coke and a whole bunch of multicolored sugary drinks that populate the supermarket aisle, Milk is uncomplicated. Whether you are dunking an Oreo in a tall cold glass of Milk or mixing in some Complan (or Horlicks, we don't discriminate), each sip is actually making your bones stronger.

But, milk is not boring. When you boil it and add some shavige, ghee, and jaggery, it transforms the humble shavige into some glorious Paayasa. The Farming Buddha's mouth is watering just writing about it! Let's face it; Milk makes the best sweets.

There's a reason we all occasionally dream of rasgullas: Milk.

For those of you that need proof, here is some from the British Dietetic Association (BDA): Milk and dairy typically provide almost one-third of our recommended calcium intake. Still, the nutrition provided by dairy products goes way beyond calcium alone. A single glass of semi-skimmed Milk provides protein, phosphorus, potassium, iodine, riboflavin, and pantothenic acid and a MASSIVE 72 percent of our daily needs for vitamin B12. The primary dietary source of B12 for vegetarians is dairy. Together, the nutrients in Milk and dairy help to:

  • Keep muscles, bones, nerves, teeth, skin, and vision healthy

  • Release energy from foods and reduce tiredness and fatigue

  • Maintain healthy blood pressure

  • Support normal growth and brain development

  • And even support normal immune functioning

But really, they're just saying what Ajji instinctively knows. She knows the closer we are to nature, the better. She knows all the medicine we need comes from nature, not medical shops.

She may not have read too many research papers on Milk.

But, somehow, she knew how to make curds out of Milk, why probiotics are essential for gut health, and how to then make butter out of curds, and boil that butter to get the most pristine-smelling ghee.

That said, it does matter what kind of Milk you drink. Not all Milk is coming to your cup equally. The nutritional integrity of your Milk depends on the cow's health, the food she is fed, and even on how happy she is. In our next blog, we will discuss why knowing where your Milk comes from is so important. Till then, let's raise our milk glasses to health!

And hey, we love that you love proof. That is the reason The Farming Buddha sends you real-time test results. We wake up at 3 AM and after milking, we test your milk for not just adulteration but also your milk's nutritional profile, every single day. In fact, the test results reach you even before the milk gets to your door. How fun does that make your morning coffee?

So now you know. There's a reason milk is Ajji's beverage of choice.

And as we are sure you can already tell, The Farming Buddha is a HUGE FAN of Ajji's age old methods of making food that stand the test of time. She's taught us how to make probiotic, thick, creamy curds and spiced ghee, go here to get some for your kids:
